A not so stupid hope
Friday, June 16, 2006

To be precise, it was 326 BC when a 26 year old Macedonian Prince with just about 3000 men under his command staggered Darius’ huge army and took over the then deemed invincible Persian Empire. At 32 when Alexander the Great died he was the most successful and youngest conqueror in the history of mankind, and he still remains to be one!
About 2500 years later, a leading sports gear giant declared, “Impossible is Nothing” to the youth , subsequently charging them all up.
The only similarity between the 2As (as if u don’t know the other is Adidas!), that they both achieved something no else ever thought about, and the young blood came handy in both the cases!
Just turn the dusty pages of time and u will observe that history has never been short of young prodigies who startled their contemporaries with their amazing talent, alacrity to achieve the unachievable and most importantly – absence of fear.
Back to the present day, we see that the exuberance factor is missing. The youth today are happy with their BPO jobs, as for most of them life begins at 16 with the first crush and 30 witnesses the decline of the same amidst family tensions and still unstable career.
Of course, there are exceptions, but the ‘5 minutes of fame’ funda works for most of them.
We are confined to our own families, we don’t have time to watch the NEWS, let alone taking cognizance of social and political matters- but missing out the Bryan Adams or MLTR live concert is nothing less than death!
So what can be the reason behind all this? What is it that makes the IITians work for the MNC’s than using their potential for the welfare of their own nation?
Well, to put it short & sweet- blame the system,
and to be brutally frank- uproot it!
The aspirations of the youth are strangled in the nascent stages by their own parents as the govt. promises inconvenience in the future( and possibly the only promise it works on!).
Most of us have lost interest in politics bcoz we know that not much can be achieved by silent protests. A handful of liars up there in the Parliament decide the fate of millions of students. Any attempt to stand up against the government is emasculated & and what remains is yet another headline which we all know collects dust as the time passes by.
Its high time we cease sitting in coffee bars arguing over the future of the society and take up the issue in our hands. It is time we stop being neutral & take up the onus of re establishing society and mending old ways.
The youth today ‘can’ bring about a change . All they need to do is stop worrying about Brangelina’s offspring, and join hands for a reason.
Albeit expensive, Adidas is correct, isn’t it?

larger than life

The one we worshipp, the one we look up to repel all are worries actually lived long, reeeaaalllly long! It is official that Lord Krishna lived for 125 years on this planet, much longer than Fred Hale, the oldest living man according the Guiness Book of World Records.
It was on February 18,3102 BC, that Krishna breathed his last on the banks of river Hiran in Prabas Pathan, after living 125 years,7 months and 6 days.
Texts indicate that He left Dwarka 36 years after the battle of Mahabharata and was never seen after that, also the Matysa Purana mentions that he was 89 years old when the battle was fought.
Also it is mentioned that Kalyug began the day Krishna left this is 5,106th year of Kalyug.
(Also, he died at 14:27:30 hours).
Worth consideration, isn't it?

Confused!
Saturday, June 10, 2006

Lets face it, every teenager wants to discuss the opposite sex.At the time when hormonal activities are at the peak, most of us(by that time in the high school or in the college) develop what can be called a hybrid of love, affection, attraction and some unexplainable feelings. Most of us in the generation venerating Justin Timberlake call it "crush", while those learned ones refer to it as- infatuation.
The reasons for teenage love are no longer hidden under the the sheets of ambiguity but are open and scientifically almost inevitable. One can always go for counselling, but frankly speaking, no one gives a damn to science! It is always as straightforward and insane as it can be ,"I love her/him."How many of us do actually try to reason with our feelings rather than just relinquishing to the hormonal tsunamies inside us.
A cognizant person will tell you how adoloscents often suffer from the pangs of depression after their 'lover' has dumped them, or the person they fancied rejected them. This leads to a series of consequences which may really not be pleasing.Take, for instance, the teenaged boy from a famous school in Bombay who called up the airport authorities spreading the bomb hoax 'just because' he wanted his girlfriend to return from her flight. The boy, albeit a good student, was suspended on the disciplinary grounds and is dreading furthur judgement from school authorities.Insanity, they follows love and this surely holds true in this case.
But it must be made very clear that infatuation is not the agent of negativity. It sometimes pumps us up with the energy, making us feel invincible. But these ephemeral moments of euphoria form part and parcel of teenage love. It can sometimes make us cross the boundries of frenzy, just like of my female friends who went nuts over this drummer guy and kind of engraved his name on her left arm with a razor.
But in today's scenario, is it really the hormones that coax us to fall in love, or the or the advent of technology and packed schedules of parents that make us look for love, no matter how artificial it is ?Is it peer pressure or the fact that we all want to be cool( now please dont pretend you dont want to be), that actually fuels infatuation.
Is the opposite sex strong enough to digress us, or we just want to?
Can't we just wait till our crush fades off, rather than being quick in love?
Patience is the key.
